Ok this is my first tutorial, so bear with me...
Ever wanted to make one of those cool grungy sigs that alotta people have? Here is one technique that i have discovered...
Requirements-
Adobe Photoshop (7.0 is what i am using),
Grunge Brushes (you can download at
1.) Start by Making a new Image (Ctrl+N) ... dimensions should vary depending on what you prefer, but im going to be using 375x125...
2.) Press D to resetcolors...
3.) Filter -> Render -> Clouds (you can do this several times to get the desired amount of white-black balance)
4.) Ctrl+Shift+N ... to make a new layer (make sure this new layer is highlighted on the layers pallette to the right)
5.) You need your grunge bushes for this part...
either stroke, or click with your brushes to get your desired effect for a grungy background look...after that, right click the layer you brushed on and change the opacity to about 65...(you can add more layers for better quality/look , you can change the opacity between layers as you wish)
6.) Next you need to get a picture to insert into the sig... (you can find good pics on google or for render pics from games go to
www.gamewallpapers.com and then save it on your desktop when you get it... it may be neccessary to adjust the image size of the picture, depending on your prefrence)... File -> Open (find your picture) and Open it... once its in there, it should be in a seperate image box, opposite your sig background... select the Lasso Tool, then circle the area you want to put in your sig... then go to Select -> Feather (change the settings to about 18)...and then get your Move Tool (V)... and move the active area (the one you just lasso'd and feather'd) to your sig...(you will need to move it around to get perfect spot)
7.) You can now close out of the picture that you lasso'd earlier... (NOT YOUR SIG) ... and do not save it... then go to your sig, and look towards the layers menu (usually located at the bottom right, but it is easily moveable) and right click on your picture that you inserted, then go to Blending Options...change the Blend Mode to 'Luminosity' , and the 'Opacity' to about 80... (can be adjusted to get desired effect)...
8.) Now its time to add a color overlay... Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Color Balance, and a window should pop up, just push 'ok'... then you may mess around with these settings to get a nice looking color for your sig...(dont forget there are more than one of the set of 3 sliders to tweak, you can change though them by clicking the dots below the sliders...)
9.) Add Text and a border and you're done! Congradulations! You Made it! lol
{I have attached my final product below}
Hope this will be helpful to some of you inexperienced newbs...lol ^_^ happy hunting...
