I've had numerous people ask me to make a tutorial on how to make logos and insignias, so I finally got time to sit down for 20 minutes and make one. Everything in here is how I make all of my logos, and it's basically pretty easy. If you have any questions, let me know. Also, please note that doing this tutorial exactly the way it is instructed is not suggested. To make awesome logos, you must experiment with all of the steps to get what you want. Step 1: Create a new layer, and then make a white circle. I suggest that you make the logo fairly larger than what is shown in the image above, because that way, you can shrink it down to size to fit in any of your images. A good size would be 300x300 pixels. Step 2: Take the eraser tool, and set the size to somewhere around the pixel size of the circle. In you chose 300x300 pixels for the base, a good eraser size would between 275x275 and 325x325. Then, erase part of the circle to get a simple shape. As shown above, I got a crescent. It is suggested that you mess with the eraser tool to get something simple and unique. Different sizes matter. Step 3: This is where the logo comes together. Copy the layer, and rotate it to a different angle and place it over the previous one. In the image above, I duplicated it twice and placed it over in two areas, then deleted a portion of it so it doesn't look repeated. Remember that this is the most important step. To get a good logo, you have to experiment with the rotating to get a good base image. In the image above, I made two of the layers transparent to show where they are placed exactly, to help you get the general idea of it. Step 4: Now, merge all the layers together to make one layer, then duplicate it and flip it horizontally or vertically. Place it on the side of the other layer, and you will most likely have a tribal-like insignia. You can do the duplicating and flipping as many times as need. The more varied it is, the better it will look. In the example, I took the logo and duplicated 3 times and flipped it to get the image shown above.
Basically, to create a good logo is experiment with the rotating and duplicating. That's all there is to it. Instead of using circles, you could use a rounded square, or maybe an oval. The more you try out, the better it will look.

Nice tutorial. Sounds easy. Thus the reason why 30% more Proboard skins feature an insignia on/off icon or for their logo. And I thought SSD would be the one to start that trend. =/

I think. I posted the tutorial at alot of places (even on Good-Tutorials ), plus all of the insignias I see are of the same style: crescent shapes just rotated and skewed to look complex.

Animated tutorials are always a nice touch. Good job, I was wondering how those were made.
