Ok, figured I'd post an almost fail-proof strategy for sphere break. All you need to know how to do, is double all number's from 1-9. And that's pretty damn simple. Well, there's some more requirements, but, this strategy is for those who have the requirements. And should be done during Chapter 5. Requirements:at least: 1 Evrae coin - So that your quota can be multiplied by multiples of 3 each time you accumulate some.
- Value of 2
1 Dinictus coin - Or any coin with a value of 1
- Has a value of 1
1 Tentacles coin - Has a coin count echo bonus.
- Has a value of 3
1 Piranha/Defender coin - Has Multiplier Echo
- Value of 6 [Piranha] 8 [Defender]
Ok, first thing to know, is the sphere in the center of the game. After you begin a match with a player. This sphere, is called the Core Sphere you do not need to provide, nor find one [you cannot]. Anyhow, all you need to provide is those coins I've specified; or at least any 4 coins you prefer. - If you dont have them, I suggest raising your diggers level, and diggin' for some of those cards.
The Core Sphere anyhow, is the most important, because that sphere will determine what number's you'll need to make, to raise your quota. - Quota--quota, is the number of points that's required to win in the number of turns
- # of turns--The number of turns, is the amount of turns you get, to try and break the quota.
Anyway, now that I've explained the important things, just keep on reading.
now, you should have the #'s 1, 2, 3, 6/8. These are the easiest #'s to use. "How so?"[/i] I hear you ask. Well... listen carefully. And, the 6/8 coin (whichever you're useing, should have the multiplier coin ability.) - multiplier coin--Every time the Core sphere equals a certain # [1-9] Make double that number [1-9] to rank up your echo bonus. This is the easiest and quickest way to raise your quota and rank your echo bonus up.
- Echo Bunus--When you successfully do what's required for and echo bonus. This will rank up, over and over, if you do it correctly, successfully doing this over and over, you may be able to defeat the hardest Sphere Break players within ten turns.
Ok, to do this, I've easily gave you coins that have low #'s. Why? because, if you're supplying the coins, for your first pick [you must] then, you'll want to use low numbers first, to add up onto them. And since Sphere Break only uses #'s rangeing from 1-9, you wont need to do much math for my strategy. The only thing you'll need to know how to do, is add number's up, from doubles of [1-9] such, as: 1x2=2 2x2=4 3x2=6 4x2=8 5x2=10 6x2=12 7x2=14 8x2=16 9x2=18 and that's all. Might want to keep that list close if you aren't too good with math. Or are just lazy. Ok, so... start a game, preferably with those coins I've listed. say the Core Sphere is a 4. What you want to do, is use your gold [submission / coin] that is a 3, the closest number to 4. Now, having a 3, what you want to do, is add something to 3, that will be 8. Why? Because 8 is double what 4 is. This will be the best way to defeat all the Sphere Break components. Useing this, and doing it correctly, over and over... will win you the game, in 12 turns, if you need a quota of about 100. I got 127 quota in 9 turns against Shinra. Anyhow, alos, if you're still having alot of trouble... here's a little something that might help somewhat more... Coin Requirement [+] additional info.:- Have the four coins I listed, and/or coins with 1, 2, 3. + any coin with Multiplier Echo.
- If Core Sphere is a 1 use the Evrae coin alone.
- If Core Sphere is 2 use the Dinictus + the tentacles coins.
- If Core Sphere is 3 use Parahna (if it's the [ME] coi you're useing. If not, use Dinictus + any coins that will equal = 5.
- If Core Sphere is 4 use the Defender coin (If you're useing it as a [ME] coin). If not, use the Tentacles + Evrae and any other coins that will equal = 3
- If Core Sphere is 5 use the Defender + Evrae. << works best. If not, Evrae + Tentacles and any other coins that will equal = 5
- If Core Sphere is 6 use the Evrae + Tentacles and any other coins that will equal = 7
- If Core Sphere is 7 use Evrae + Tentacles and any other coins that will equal = 9
- If Core Sphere is 8 use Evrae + Tentacles and any other coins that will equal = 11
- If Core Sphere is a 9 use Evrae + tentacles and any other coins that equal = 13
That should work perfectly, and you shouldn't lose much if you have those coins. If you dont got the coins, I suggest diggin'. If you aint got the digging... well then, I guess I'll have to make a strategy for that too... soon.

Just because it was easy, for a significant few, such as people like us. [you and I] Doesn't mean it will be as easy for others. thus - this strategy.
To answer your question - sadly enough to say. I believe in my 100% completion of the game, you are required to have beaten Shinra along with have played, 2 more games of sphere break. Against random people. Also, there is prizes to be won during the game. And all the coins to collect as well. There is many things to such a small aspect of the game. Though a small side-quest it's ranges are far, and I'm not sure as to all of the reasons there are for playing it after beating Shinra. Also, keep in mind, that Shinra is not the hardest of the foes. There are two other players, with quotas of 200 and 300 hundred. Each with 30 turns I believe. They're not much of a challenge for me, but are a bit more of a challenge than Shinra.
Also, some people, just like playing the game. I have no idea why, but it might seem to enjoy them.
