I also rented this last night (along with NFSU2), and it's pretty awesome. I think once I get the hang of the game, and get better at it, then I'll be able to enjoy it more. It's a little difficult in the beginning, and you just have to know how to be able to kick ass at any given time.
For anyone who doesn't know, you're Leon S. Kennedy, an agent sent out to save the President's daughter, Ashley Graham. You arrive in a little village in the middle of nowhere in Europe (Spain), because that's where she was supposedly last seen. Except the villagers are like zombies on steroids, and you're trying to find out what the hell is going on. You can't escape because they killed the people who drove you there and destroyed the bridge.
The combat's a little hard, but great. This what a first-person shooter would be like in third-person, and it's awesome. A little creepy, though. These aren't your ordinary zombies -- these are Ganado, and they may start out swaying and staggering, but they can dash at you and have pitchforks and stuff.
Right now I'm still at the village, but I'm at the part where you see all of those blue jewels (think it's part of a sidequest). I really have to get used to this game, because I almost got my ass kicked because I don't have any stealth. I tried sneaking around the main part of the village, but then they started coming after me (hinted at by the suddenly-appearing dramatic music), and I literally had to fend myself off from the entire village-full. Unfortunately, I didn't discover the shotgun until AFTER I defeated them all with a weak-ass handgun, which would've made life easier. Now, though, I'm armed with a shotgun, and I'm ready to blow some heads and kneecaps off (the easiest way to kill them).
Another cool part is the hand-to-hand combat. Once you stun an enemy, you can go right up to it and press A, making Leon do a badass kick. The kick can even hit other enemies nearby if they're close enough. As for the guns, there's no lock-on feature, so you have to kill everything with your skill in accuracy; luckily there's a red laser that's acts as a crosshair.
Well, whatever, I'm rambling. Anyone play it?

I'm almost done with the game. Just so you know, better save the shotgun shells for bigger creatures such as wolves or villagers at night. Also they are very scarce. I'm currently in the castle.

That's cool, I'm almost out of shotgun ammo anyway, so I'm trying to spare it. See, I thought when they said you had 20 shotgun shells or a certain number of ammo for a weapon, that it meant that you had that number (say, 20) of shells...meaning that you had 20 shells full of 6 bullets (the default capacity). Boy was I wrong. Now I have to conserve ammo. Anyway, this game is creepy but addicting. My last save is at Chapter 2-1, I think, and I just went forward -- not to actually play, because I wanted to take a break soon -- to see what the upcoming challenges were like. Well, what ended up happening was that I went through El Gigante and rescued Ashley, and I'm now at Chapter 2-2. Of course, I know I missed a LOT of items, so...yes...I'm going back all the way. It shouldn't be too bad now that I know what's going on. Seriously though, El Gigante wasted ALL of my handgun ammo. Luckily I found a lot more later, but still... By the way, should I buy the TMP, or is it a bad choice? I have like 200 shots for it, but not the gun itself. Is it worth it? I'm gonna get the Red9 soon anyway, but that also takes up handgun ammo. How about the rifle as well? While I'm on the subject, should I get the Red9? And how long is Ashley with you for the game, and is she hard to keep alive?

1. Yes the TMP will help when the creatures within the villagers come out if you give them headshots and what not. Also with bosses. 2. Get the Red9. And upgrade. I messed up selling it and buying a butterfly. 3. When you get in the castle about, buy the automatic rifle and something else. Oh yes, the new shotgun. Gotta sell the old one when the new one is available. 4. Ashley is with you the rest of the game, but you do lose her sometimes. If she's injured, you have to use your green plants or whatever to heal her.

And how often would you suggest giving herbs to Ashley to increase her health? Yellow herbs seem kind of rare, so I was wondering whether I should use most of them on Leon, or split them between Ashley and Leon (combined with a green herb, of course). Hopefully Ashley won't die too often. Maybe it's not as hard taking care of her as I'm making it out to be.

When she dies the game is over. Also when you beat the game, you can replay it with the weapons you got. Just think, an unlimited ammunition for the Tompson you get when you win playing the game all over again!

DAMN this game is kickass. First I'll post my status, and then I'll post my thoughts.
FIRST OF ALL, EVERYONE WHO HASN'T READ THIS TOPIC: READ IT. I DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A GAMECUBE. THIS GAME IS AWESOME AND YOU SHOULD READ EVERYTHING ABOUT IT, AND ESPECIALLY WHAT I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT IT. THAT WAY YOU CAN ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT IT AND EVENTUALLY PLAY IT.
Okay, I'm done. Anyway, I just saved before the gondola in 2-3 (I think it's 2-3). So I just finished the choose-one-path-to-get-to-the-end sequence...AND I CHOSE BOTH PATHS. Yes, that's right, I first went in and kicked another El Gigante's ass (aka I barely came out alive). Then, I healed and pillaged the whole area in the right path, and then came back and moved to the left path. There were so many Ganados. AND THE BELLA SISTERS (two chainsaw sisters) ARE CREEPY. I forgot to knock the one ladder down, so they were coming up as I was coming back up. I barely managed to get back to the beginning so I could pick 'em off one by one. Luckily I had hid Ashley in the dumpster/bin thing in the beginning.
Eventually they got pretty close to me, so I decided to use a grenade. This still didn't kill them off (and some of the villagers), though. Then one of the chainsaw sisters came REALLY close to me. I mean REALLY close. Luckily, I quickly equipped the shotgun and blasted her to a few feet away. Eventually I killed everything that moved in there, and in the next path (which was kind of hard too). Then I opened the door to the left path, came all the way back, and opened the door to the right path, proving to the game that I did BOTH paths.
Unfortunately, I'm lower on supplies than I was before I beat both of the paths. But, I think I can sell the Elegant Mask (?) for full price now, since I have all three gems fitted into it.
I still need more shotgun ammo, and now I need TMP ammo too. =P

Should've read a guide or something. I never went the path to the El Gigante. I went to the left and owned the villagers.

Okay, I need more help. I did a test run through the first part of 3-1 (the castle) with the Blacktail instead of the Red9. The Blacktail takes up a lot less space, and I need every bit of space I can get, even with the Attache Case L. Is the Blacktail worth it? I know that it's similar to the Red9, but I guess I might be more accurate with the Red9 with stock. I had over 130 handgun shots going in to the castle, and when I turned my test run off, I had only 30 or so (using the Blacktail). Should I keep the Red9?
By the way, the castle's a lot harder than the village. Holy crap, that one room with all the cultists was hard (the one when Ashley turns the cranks).
I'm going to do another test run (that might turn out to be the real thing) with the Red9 soon, and see how I do. Any tips or advice?

Isn't the blacktail the shotgun? Nope. Keep the Red9 and upgrade it. Then sell your shotgun and buy the riot gun if you wish, it's more powerful. Also get the Semi-Auto rifle. EDIT: Make an extra save file just incase you don't like what I just told you to do.
