Debate 4: What is the best banning method?

I say email.

The reason why is that most people only have one email.
They usually won't care to get anouther email JUST to get around a ban.

I say by Username.

It makes them have to re-register and go through ProBoards AWESOME (if you're talking about PB) activation sequence.

Banning by email isn't effective because lots of people have multiple emails. Same with IP addresses.

All three is the easiest way. See, if you ban by e-mail, it bans by username also. Meaning, they have to get a new username AND e-mail. If you ban by IP, all they basically have to do is disconnect/reconnect. But see, most people aren't computer geniuses, or aren't very good with them at all, unlike Hatake members.

Meaning, they don't know how to reset their IP, and they'd think. "Well shit. I've been banned for good. Damn it." and then they'd give up.

Zoten, you'd be surprised about the e-mail thing. It's not that hard to set up another account just for that purpose.

If they know about an IP change, then I guess there is no good method. They get another IP, get another e-mail, and register again. Or is there something I'm missing (again)?

How does banning the email also ban the username? Wouldn't you still be able to login?

I was assuming it did ban the username, since the username has the e-mail.

I think username first, then IP.

Go with username first, because a lot of times they will just give up after you ban their username, if they re-register with a different login name, go to the IP banning. Now, this wont solve the problem, because it is very easy to get another IP, but like some of you mentioned, a lot of people arent that good with computers, and wont know how to do that. Skip email all together, because I have 4 emails(I only really use 1, maybe 2 of them), but its very, very easy to set up an email account on Yahoo, GMail, USA, etc.

E-mail is probably the worst because of that. Sledge is right. I have 8 or 9 e-mails (don't ask -.- ) that I could use to register.

Username wise, its just waiting for one e-mail, then clicking activate account.

Actually, banning username is best. See, ban the username, and have it set so admins must activate the users account. So then, if they try to rejoin, you can easily reban them before they do anymore harm.

I still go by what I said before in my last post.

But, how would you know it's them rejoining? What if you're banning a real member?

Because, most likely, they'd use the same e-mail.

And isn't it a feature in PBv4 that it shows most recent IP in profiles?
