Hi this is my first post and I hope I am on the right board... I am trying to learn Java scripting but it all seems way to complex for me (brain doesn't function properly) I was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction, I have been to several sites and looked at tutorials but I am lost and confused...
I don't really know where to start, thats the main problem...
Please help...
I apologise if I posted in the wrong section

First off, Java or Javascript? There's a huge difference. I made the same mistake the first time I asked. First off, do you know HTML? If you don't start with the very basics. www.w3schools.com/ covers that, and some advanced stuff. Next, learn basic CSS (view that site) and then, we can help you with JavaScript.

thanks for the quick reply
Yeah I know HTML, I don't know CSS so I'll do that first and I meant Javascript...
I know there is a difference between them. If anyone knows of any extremely easy to follow tutorials could you plz point me in the right direction, like I said in my first post my brain doesn't function properly, so learning things is hard... The main rason I want to learn all this stuff is so I can eventually write codes that I can use on my website and forums, and it be my own work... Thanks again

there is Sun's Javawhich is a high level object oriented programming language. to learn this you will need to download a compiler and probably buy a book or just find a very good tuturial on this. but I wouldn't suggest Java to anyone, it's a very popular language because of it's portibility but....I dont like it . if your going for a programming language, a good one to start with is Python or C. C++ isn't good for beginners because this also contains object orientation which will confuse most noobs there is Javascript - this is a client side scripting language which is used to ad annoying/pretty features to one website. Javascript is a total difference ffrom Java, first of all it's not a programming language but a scripting language. second it's soooo weak and annoying. to learn Javascript you dont need much, a few tutorials on the web should do. in the code chat board you should read the hatake coding magazines (issue 2 and 3) which will give you some tutorials (for the novice) and a few links to websites to help you learn javascript. ~ CrAzY_J

Of course his tutorials mainly cover use for ProBoards, and not for things like set_frame() and things to open pop-ups with (believe set_frame() is right, anyway).
CSS is very simple, but it and PHP are the best thigns to learn for when you want to make a site. CSS and JavaScript are great for making remotely hosted forums, like this one, hosted on ProBoards.

I mean for editing, designing, etc. You don't use hTML or PHP as much.

what programs do you suggest I use for working with HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP and any others I missed...
I mainly use Dreamweaver for my site designs and they are pretty crap and basic designs, that are made up of tables and images mostly with a bit of text here and there...
I'm just really lost at the moment...

HTML/CSS/JS/PHP or not programs nor are they programming languages. they are scripting languages.
and dont use dreamweaver. Notepad is the best
you should use all scripting languages you posted above, they're all very recommendable (sp?) for making a website
